Teamviewer 8.0.16447.0 on Windows7 (32 bit)
If I double-click the .EXE installer and choose 'Start' I can connect with my partner machine and Teamviewer runs properly.
If I double-click the .EXE installer and 'Install' the software, Teamviewer cannot connect with my partner machine.
This effect is repeatable over several install/deinstall cycles.

What version of TV is the remote machine using?

I had a similar problem, consistently unable to connect even though it's shown as online. If you download version 7 and install that you will have no problems.
