Title: Can't get rid of black screen
Post by: Royt on November 18, 2014, 12:11:46 PM
I recently had a friend connect to my computer using teamviewer which all worked fine.

However, on rebooting my computer my wallpaper has disappeared and the screen refuses to show anything except a black background.

I have tried deleting transcoded wallpaper; checked ease of access settings; tried the trouble shooter; checked registry settings. In fact just about everything Google could offer.

What am I missing here? How does teamviewer change the wallpaper and more importantly how can I get it back?

I'd make sure that TeamViewer isn't running on your machine.

That sounds to me like your friend is still connected

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

No it cannot be that.

I have even tried uninstalling teamviewer. Makes no difference. Teamviewer has obviously unset something somewhere and has not reset it on disconnection.

so if you right click on the desktop, and select personalise, can you select a theme?

Hi,

Yes I can select a theme. But nothing changes on the screen. And if I click on the theme it points me to solid black colour.

I am unable to delete the black theme from there but can delete it from my themes folder. It just gets recreated each time. Also the transcoded wallpaper file always has zero bytes even after renaming and recreating; the themes.ini file is empty and I have checked the required registry settings. I have checked the ease of access settings and run the trouble shooter which found nothing wrong. I have also run sfc /scan now. This found nothing wrong.

I am wondering if a system restore might help. Anyone know if this would reset these files?

Hi, I have the same problem, when I disconnect my wallpaper keeps black.

Ps. My wallpaper is published by GPO of my Active Directory.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have problem with black wallpaper too on some PCs. Customer's wallpaper is not restored after I disconnect from the PC and it keeps black. I really need to solve it, it's annoying for me and primarily for the customers.

I have also noticed this while using TeamViewer to update a new machine with Windows 10.  Not only does logging in force the black background, it remains on reboot, and the last reboot came up to a black screen with just a working mouse.  While no longer remote, I had to hold the Left mouse button down and drag it across the screen to get the login box to even show up, and while I did this some blue horizontal lines began to appear on the screen.  After logging into Windows the lines immediately disappeared and was left with the black background for several minutes before the default Windows background showed back up.

There is also an option in

Extras >> Remote Control >> Display >> Remove remote wallpaper

Try unchecking that
