Using TV10 without routers or internet access
« on: January 24, 2015, 07:02:11 AM »
Hi, my first post to the forum and I did search without any success which surprised me but  if there is a thread somewhere please point me at it :)

My situation is this: I have a laptop running Windows 7 and a tablet running Windows 8.1 and I would like to control the tablet remotely from the laptop. I can do this in a home environment i.e. with the devices connected, via wifi, to a router with internet access without any issues.

What I would like to do is connect the devices away from the home with zero access to routers or any internet connection.

In TV10 Extras>options if I set the incoming Lan to accept exclusively it provides the main TV window with 127.0.0.1 which I know is just a loopback IP rather than a 192. 168.x.x. type of IP.

Is it actually possible to do what I'm trying to do with TV10? maybe with static ips in the wifi adaptor?

best regards
Kev

Why don't you try an ad-hoc networking connection between the devices first

Look in Windows Network settings

Hi Matt, I did the adhoc network route but for some weird reason my Win7 laptop will not create one even with full Admin access :(

I have resolved the problem by using a battery powered router as an Access Point (the TP-Link MR-3040) this gives me legitimate IP addresses which TV10 is happy with. I use the router for a wireless connection to my DSLR controlling it via an Android tablet so the router is always with me. It has a 4-5 hour battery life so is similar to the HP Stream 7 tablet life.
