Can't get wake on lan to work
« on: February 11, 2015, 11:17:47 AM »
Hi!  I'm baffled by wake on lan and can't get it to function at all.  I have my desktop machine logged into our account and all networked machines are available and TV works fine in all other respects.

I also have a laptop I want to wake up.  I've enabled WOL in its bios, configured the network card as the instructions specified.  I've joined the laptop to our TV account and all seems well.  Now I go to my desktop machine.  I go into options, WOL and enter the TV ID of the laptop (local network option).  I power off the laptop and that's indicated in the TV list.  I right click on it and... there's no Wake Up button.

Both machines are Win7 running TV10.  Any help appreciated, thanks!

Edit:  Now that I read closer, on my desktop machine in the WOL options it says "Select whether this computer can be woken up using WOL.  Why am I entering the laptop TV ID here if it says THIS computer?  If I'm to enter the laptop TV ID into the laptop configuration, why would I add its own ID?  The instructions constantly reference "The Computer" but is confusing as to which computer "The Computer" is.  Maybe this is where I'm being confused?  Thanks!

Ive not used WOL but what comes to mind when reading your post is the bolded option... look for/activate that on the laptop, not the desktop

Thanks for the reply...

AHA!!  One has to put the TV ID of the machine that's doing the waking into the machine that is to be woken up.  Then the Wake Up button appears!  Awesome!

Pressing the Wake Up button doesn't do anything at all. :(
