I followed the instructions at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DthTedu0KgI and got a VPN connection with my second laptop (just to understand how it is done).
I got the connection okay but I'm not getting the behaviour I was expecting. The video says I should be seeing the IP address of the remote computer under Network in File Explorer and gives the impression that the whole computer should be accessible to me. Instead, I can only access the four standard libraries, Documents, Pictures, Videos, and Music. I can't see the C: drive, the desktop or any of the rest of the computer.
(Also, it's not showing me the IP address: instead, I see the domain name/computer name/user account. I don't consider that a problem, I'm just mentioning in case it helps someone diagnose what I'm doing wrong.)
Is this working as it's supposed to or should I be able to see all of the remote computer? (I should mention that, in this case, the remote computer is on the same network as I am and is sitting about 2 feet away so perhaps that's the problem....
Anyway, the reason I ask is that another thread suggested that I could use the VPN approach to install a game that is on a CD from *my* computer here to my mother's computer in another city. (I have the CD for the game here and won't be driving to mother's house for a couple of months but I'd like to install the game for her from here.) If anyone can tell me how to proceed, I'd be grateful for the advice. I've never tried anything quite like this.
Can I use the VPN or a normal TeamViewer remote connection or file transfer to install a CD I have here on a remote computer? If so, how do I do it?
