Strange behaviour - anyone else notice this?
« on: September 28, 2011, 08:46:01 AM »
This has existed in different severities ever since I started using Teamviewer, waaay back, in those ancient and mystic times of ... 2007ish?

Anyways, the thing is that sometimes TV will not redraw the screen unless I move my mouse, or press a key, it'll just show the same picture, until I move the mouse / press a key again.

I first noticed this when I was remotely running an install script I had coded, and an ad in Opera in the background wasn't moving anymore, when I moved the mouse it would move again, and then after a certain time it would stop, and only start redrawing when I would move the mouse.

It's a bit obscure, as it only happens when you do not move your mouse, and do not hit any keys, so I didn't notice it again for quite some time, but it really struck me when I was transferring a ~10mb file over a rather slow connection (100kb/s or so, was the peak), which should have taken ~2 minutes, and after 5 minutes or so I started watching it, and I noticed that it would transfer with 100kb/s for 3-4 seconds, and then stop for anywhere from 5-10 seconds, and then transfer some more, and then stop.

First I assumed it was just displaying it wrong, but when I switched from the File Transfer screen to the remote control screen (which showed me the remote computer), and started moving my mouse about, I noticed that each "tick" the mouse moved the download would progress, resulting in at least 3-4 times faster transfer.

The 10mb file took about 7-8 minutes or so, with me not touching anything, but when I was actively moving the mouse with the remote (after having restarted the download), it was finished in a mere 2.5 minutes.

I just tried this again now, v6.0.11117 (the latest at this time) on both machines, a 14mb download, shows 160-320kb/s and also transfers at that speed for ~2 seconds, then stops for 5-10 seconds, and then it updates the speed to 15-30kb/s and transfers for another 1-2 seconds, after which it jumps to 320kb/s.

Also, in general the window seems to refresh slowly, meaning it doesn't update it's downloaded amount or speed often, prolly around once per second.

As soon as I switch into the remote, and start dragging the mouse around, each "jump" the mouse makes on the remote pc will update the transfer.

Without moving the mouse in the remote window: 4 mins 33 seconds, or ~51kb/s
With constantly moving the mouse: 45 seconds, or ~311kb/s

Any input is appreciated.

Oh, and yes, this isn't really a problem, it's more... a bit strange, and might hint at an underlying and undiscovered bug :)
