Some clients staying "on-line" when they are not
« on: January 25, 2014, 06:05:52 PM »
Ni, We have a LAN in a far country that has closed for the Chinese New Year. All power to the premises is off, all the LAN machines are off, the router is off. Yet of the 2 servers, and 11 workstations on the LAN, both servers and 3 of the workstations show as "on-line" in my Teamviewer, yet I know they are physically off. How can this be?

Thanks

TV normally does a 'heartbeat' to check status. Are you sure that these computers can't access the internet some other way?
What happens if you try to connect to them?

Also, TV9 has WOL. Were these remote machines setup for WOL, and then just hibernated rather than powered down?

Thanks Matt, but:-

1. Power to the whole site is OFF. All PCs and servers were closed down prior to the power being turned off. There is no way anything in there can access the Internet. No power at all.
2. The machines all have TeamViewer version 7.

It seems to me that the TeamViewer system servers seem to have locked these machines as "online" somehow.

If I try to connect to these machines, after a while I get a message:
No connection to partner!
Partner did not connect to router.
Error code: WaitforConnectFailed

how long have these machine been shown as online?
Try logging out of your partner list( computers and contacts) rebooting your machine and then logging back in to your partners and contacts list.
Then see if they are stil listed

I turned the machines off last Saturday morning (25th), flew to Singapore and logged in to Teamviewer on my iPad and saw them on-line. Then flew another 10 hours, and checked again, and they are still reporting as on-line. Checked on a freshly-booted PC too. One of the servers is an FTP server, and it is not responding to any FTP requests. The power at the premises was off when I left, and there is certainly no-one there to turn it back on (Chinese new year is a serious close-down - no-one would even contemplate going to work!). Why is it only 3 or the 11 PCs in the LAN too. Most odd.
