I just updated my TeamViewer 9, which I keep up to date all the time. And this latest update to 9.0.32494 now won't let me close the main window.

Before I would connect to a remote computer or multiple computers. And by default the main window would also be open. The window labeled "Teamviewer" which shows menu items of Connection, Extras, Help. And so I would simply click on the X in the top-right to close that window. Which would simply minimize that window to the System Tray (notification area, sometimes called the Tasktray or systray) and off my Taskbar in Windows 8.1 Desktop view.

I like it minimized so that I can quickly go back to the Remote session window by just clicking once on the remaining Taskbar icon. Otherwise it is a stacked view and I have to choose which window to restore.

In this latest version. When I click on the X to close the Teamviewer window so it will minimize to the System Tray (notification area) ; it now wants to exit the whole application and so it will ask me if I want to close all my connections.

Is there a way to get the previous functionality back to minimize to System Tray (notification area)  instead of close? The minimize button still does the normal expected action of minimizing to the Taskbar. But I want it in the System Tray (notification area) , not the Taskbar.

Under Advanced Options, there is an item labeled "Close to Tray Menu" and it is checked. But it is also greyed out so that I can't change the option.

This is from the TeamViewer Changelog page:

Version 9.0.32494
  • VoIP and Phone Conference widgets are now combined for easier selection
  • Connections to contacts don’t require the pre-selection of the target device anymore
  • Improved the recognition and reconnection after a reboot
  • Other minor improvements and fixes

I'm with you. I was just browsing the forums to find out the same answer. All greyed out in the advanced options area for me as well. v9.0.32494

I am disappointed with the official Teamviewer support. Sure, I know I am using the free product. And I am ok with the really slow response time because of that. But why can't understand what I typed? I clearly said my version, the issue, and even that the option "Close Menu to Tray" is greyed out. So what do they reply with... to use that option! Like they didn't even read the body of my ticket, only the subject line. And of course I replied within 5 minutes of getting the email and I still haven't heard back from them in days. Certainly doesn't encourage me to want to use their paid service.

With any luck, another update will come out soon and this issue will be resolved by that.

After a little more back and forth, the official support has finally acknowledged this is now known by developers and a fix will come in a future update.

"We got some news from our developers that this is unfortunately a known problem in the current version. Our developers are already working on a solution and this will be fixed as soon as possible. We are really sorry about the inconvenience."

Hopefully in the very next update. But at least we now know it is being worked on.

+1 I have just created an account here in this forum to say that I have this problem also!  What a drag and inconvenience to break my workflow!  I pray that Teamviewer fixes this problem soon.

Hi. I've just found a workaround. Double click on the teamviewer icon in the tray/notification area of taskbar and the main window will minimize to tray. Connections will remain opened. It works with me.

Thanks for the workaround info. I wish I knew that sooner or that Teamviewer support knew that when I contacted them. The close to tray still wasn't working as of today for the latest version 9.x, so I finally upgraded to version 10 today. And now the close to tray works again.

The reason the "Close To tray Menu" is grayed out is because you have "Start teamviewer with windows". It's like a failsafe. Assuming you want Teamviewer to start everytime windows starts, then that means you never want it closed, therefore it greys out the Close To Tray.
All you have to do is change the setting for startup.

hope that helps

Hi,

I got this problem with the version 11.0.64630 (the latest of this period); I tried the workarounds of Nelson and Axemon, all worked fine. But the exact feature we want couldn't be reach by those workarounds:

- Nelson trick: you should seek for the TV icon in Systray, instead of Clicking immediately on the button X
- Axemon trick: you gain the "Close to tray Menu" with the button X, but you lose the Starting with Windows (something I can't afford, since I often forget to start TeamViewer after a Windows reboot);

The Solution I've found :
- I checked the  "Start with Windows" (and "Close to Tray Menu" was automatically grayed out)
- Then I found an option "Disable TeamViewer shutdown" at the bottom of Advanced Setting. I checked that item, and I gained the original feature we wanted, without losing the "Start with Windows".

Hope that will help.
