No password prompt with Computers & Contacts panel
« on: February 19, 2014, 06:50:10 PM »
Hi,

I just installed TeamViewer on two computers and am trying to understand how to protect an unattended access connection with a password. If someone could point me to what I am doing wrong that would be very helpful. I have searched forum and googled in general but could not find any information this particular issue.

The summary of the problem is that TV only prompts for the password when the connection is set up using a Partner ID (under Remote Control / Control remote computer). However, when using the Computers & Contacts panel a connection is provided without prompting for a password.

I much prefer to use the Computers & Contacts panel, so I don't have to keep track of a bunch of ID numbers. However, the password is essential for my piece of mind.

Here's what I did:

Installed TV on computer A and B.

1. Computer A:
1.1 Clicked Computers & Contacts, signed in to my TV web account
1.2 Clicked "Add this computer" and specified a password

2. On computer B:
2.1 Clicked Computers & Contacts, signed in to my TV web account
2.2 Verified that computer A appears in the list under "My computers"
2.3 Right-clicked Computer A, and chose "Remote control using password"

3. Result:
3.1 Actual result: Computer B connects to computer A without prompting for a password
3.2 Expected result: Computer B prompts for computer A's password, then connects to computer password

Am I misunderstand what "Remote control using password" means in the Computers & Contacts panel?

Thanks.

matt

Don't save the password in computers and contacts, and you will be asked for a password each time that teamviewer is restarted. TV will save passwords within a 'session', but not across sessions, if the password is left blank in computers and contacts
