TV causing computer to lose wireless internet connection?
« on: May 25, 2015, 02:01:25 AM »
I know this may sound strange, but within the last several months on of the client PCs has been having intermittent wireless connection issues.  At first my father stated he had no connection problems, but I would connect remotely in with TV to that computer and it would drop its wireless connection.   At first I did not see any relationship between TV and this issue.  This week, though, it happened again.  I closed TV on his PC and the wireless connection restored itself.  This causes me now to consider a relationship between the connection loss and TV.

FWIW-  When on wired connection I have no issues.

Is there any chance that TV is causing this?

I thought you were having trouble with your television. (TV) (They're getting smarter.)
The expression 'would drop its wireless connection' isn't fully clear.
If you're maintaining a Tv connection but losing general (remote) internet access, then you're maintaining an active link. If you're saying that even your Tv connection fails after a while connected, then you certainly have a wireless issue.
Things I'd consider would be a wireless efficiency problem, in the sense of Tv overloading the bandwidth (speed, not quantity), in which case you'd have to look at your router's suitability and/or its placement.
You might also check on the wireless drivers in both your remote machine and the router's firmware. Many times, drivers are updated.
Do also a CCleaner or FreeFixer refresh, or both.

The problem is weird.  I would never have thought TV could have anything to do with it.  The problem is when I remote in to my Dad's computer the computer loses it's wireless connection to the router.   He would later report the connection came back and did not give him trouble unless I remoted in.   It has stumped me for a while.  Then, when at his house I was using this same computer and the connection dropped.  This time TV was running, but I was not remoting in as I was literally at the computer.  When I saw the connection drop and could not figure it out I decided to shutdown TV and see what happened.  Once shutdown the connection came back.

Go figure.

Hmm.. figuring...
Is there another machine in the premises? A PC, tablet or phone. Is wireless transmission reliable?
Eliminate the improbable; whatever's left must be the truth..
Remember the drivers.
Or off to www.tweaking.com - thoroughly.

No other wireless devices in the house.  I had my brother drop by with his smartphone just to see if he had any problems connecting to the wireless.  No problem.  Maybe TV has nothing to do with it and I just need to explore intermittent connectivity issues.
