new to teamviewer (question regarding remote access)
« on: April 19, 2016, 08:13:22 AM »
Basically lm due to be helping out a friend with their computers, while they do know how to use their laptop/PC they are completely useless when it comes to setting up things and sorting out problems.

basically this is where l come in, lve no issues troubleshooting issues and such and lve been asked to help out with their setups and such.. as l wont always be able to be in front of their systems (one happens to be in their bedroom and she would prefer me to be able to sort things out without having to sit on her bed for hours) accessing remotely is the best option.

now lve setup the program on my PC and signed up for an account, my theory is with an account instead of having to remember numbers my assumption is l'll have computers (users) listed on the "computers & contacts" window.. but lm left with one of question.

that there will be two computers lm helping her with, do they each have to have a different account or can both sign in with the same username/password? this would make things a bit simpler in the respects that l assume as long as each device is given a different name l could connect to which one lm required to sort out (because going by my installation l had to give computer names/passwords it wouldnt be so far fetched to assume l could login to the same account with two computers which are under two different computer names).

each device will generate and have its own unique ID, yes they will be separate, you will need to set up each machine individually. You can name each one as you wish in your computer and contacts list.

so basically two computers can login to the same account and l add them by email both computers via the "add contact" that have been setup on that account and will will show up in computers and contacts?

or do do l have to add each separately using what is entered into the "your ID" box on the teamviewer main window? lm hoping its as simple as possible so l can walk my friend through the setup if l dont get a chance to physically sit in front of her computers this week, it would be even better if there was a simple tutorial to get me  started that even she could follow with regards to setting things up for me to connect on her end.

(one thing that would be interesting to find out, its likely there will be reboots when setting up her system like showing her how to do windows updates on 8.1/10 and making sure she has all the drivers she needs, lm assuming one has to be in windows to use teamviewer or can one connect from the windows login screen? as l know she has secured her windows desktops with a login, reason l ask is because depending on settings teamviewer starts with windows).

You friend just needs to download and run teamviewer, and then provide you with the ID and password

You start teamviewer and enter their ID and pasword when prompted

It's that easy

If you want to remember the other machines ID (and there is no requirement from Teamviewer to do so) then you should create an account, open computers and contacts and add your friend's ID to this list.
DO not get your friend to log into your account or they will be able to log into your computer.

A single ID can be in multiple users computers and contacts list

You should only log in (when you need to) on one computer, the one that you are physically sitting at.

so basically put they set it up on their computer, fill in the relevant passwords and such and provide me with the ID thats shown on the "allow remote control"? lm assuming that doesnt change if you dont have an account, then l having signed up can remotely access the computer in question to the contacts list and as long as teamviewer is setup to start with windows l can access even the remote computer has been rebooted?

(like l said l want to be sure that l can have unattended access when required if l need to do updates and such which my friend doesnt know how to do without having to acquire a new ID each time it reboots)

If you want unattended access to their machine at all times, then get your friend to go

connection >> Setup unattended Access
