Prompting for password unexpectedly
« on: June 07, 2016, 11:20:39 AM »
Hello, I've been (happily) using TeamViewer for several years (now using version 11). The recent press put a little bit of the "fear of God" into me, so I tightened up security a little. But now I'm struggling to understand why I'm being prompted for a password on one computer but not the next.

First, I turned on 2-factor authentication (at my account). Then, (on each computer): Checked "start with Windows", assigned the machine to my personal (TV) account, activated the WhiteList and made sure I was listed, activated "easy access for Mark", removed the random password (disabled password strength), and set incoming LAN connections to Accept (not sure if this was needed or not).

I have a couple of VMs and a couple of laptops in addition to my main desktop. Most work as expected (remote control just connects). But when connecting to my main desktop, I'm prompted for a password. In "Options, Security", both password fields are blank. If I go into "Setup unattended access", those password fields are also blank. Using my TV account password doesn't work, so I have no idea what password it's asking for ...

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, or suggestions as to what I might try next would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Don't save the passwords in computers and contacts

Also there is an advanced setting (at both ends) that will allow you to remember passwords for a session (or not)

Thanks for responding Matt, but I don't believe that is the issue. I'll be very specific as to which settings I'm referring to. I'm trying to control computer "A" from computer "B". On computer A, "Extras, Options, Security" had both password fields blank. On computer B, in properties for computer A (from Computers & Contacts), the password field was blank. When I used computer B and double-clicked computer A from the list, it prompted me for a password.

You mentioned an "advanced setting". I don't think I made any changes in there, but are you referring to "Temporarily save connection passwords" in "Extras, Options, Advanced, Show Advanced Options, Advanced settings for connections to other computers"? From my reading of the manual on this setting, it doesn't appear to be related to what I'm experiencing.

Thanks again.

That setting is checked on ALL instances of TV. Are you suggesting UN-checking it might make a difference? There's still inconsistency as to being prompted for passwords. Thanks again for your continued assistance. Mark

I think with that setting selected that passwords will be remembered until you log out of team viewer contacts and computers and log into teamviewer contacts and computers  subsequently.

The first time you connect to a computer each 'session' you will be asked for the password. Subsequent times each session the password will be remembered
