No password set and now cannot access remote computer
« on: June 10, 2016, 02:35:18 AM »
Hi,

I apologise for my mistake but I recently set up teamviewer on a remote computer and on purpose skipped the password input. I tested the teamviewer on another computer but via the same switch and it worked. When I tested it again from a remote location it now asks for a password but I never set one. There is no password either for windows. Basically it asks for a password and if I click log on with nothing entered in the password box ( because there is no password) it justs comes back again asking for a password. Is there a phase like or default password I have to use to get back into the computer and when in set a password. Unfortunately I won't be able to get to this computer for a couple of weeks.

On the computer that you are connecting TO (ie the remote computer), when you open Teamviewer there is an ID and a password shown on that screen

Thanks Matt, but it is remote with no keyboard, mouse or monitor connected to it so I can't ask someone to check while I'm not there. Is there no default. I deliberately didn't put in a password so I wouldn't forget it. I have set Teamviewer up before on my laptops and I have never entered in a password before for the laptops only for the account.

Using Teamviewer without any passwords is a) incredibly silly, and b) if it was allowed previously, with all of this unauthorised use and theft of web data that is going on, likely to have been stopped by Teamviewer.

I can not imagine why you would not want a password (as opposed to setting up a password and having that remembered)

Also, with no screen, mouse or keyboard, how did you install teamviewer?

I understand the security issues but this computer is just a control for a piece of video equipment. I don't like passwords where not necessary as they can be forgotten and then I or others with my permission can get locked out of the software. I took away the keyboard, mouse and monitor after installing teamviewer as I just use the computer to remotely access the video equipment.

It just seems odd that Teamviewer would let you skip the password entry but then block you from accessing the computer without a password. Teamviewer should not have given me the option to skip the password or should have cleary stated that I needed a password before being able to operate the computer remotely.
