windows explorer server execution failure on remote pc
« on: July 10, 2016, 11:16:54 AM »
Hello.  First-time poster here.  Any ideas and suggestions about the following will be greatly appreciated!

I'm using Win7 x64 Home Premium and Teamviewer 11 to support a remote PC also running Win7 x64 Home Premium and Teamviewer 11.  I have been successfully connecting for more than a year.  About 3 weeks ago, the remote PC started throwing a 'server execution failure' from Windows Explorer.exe whenever I connect.  I can see the remote desktop as usual and control the mouse and such, but, of course, anytime I try to use a function dependent on explorer.exe, I get the error message.  As soon as I disconnect, the remote PC works properly.  I have tried closing and re-starting the remote Teamviewer and have tried re-booting the remote PC, but the problem remains.  I can connect to other PCs (two that I have tried) and remote control works normally.

Thanks,
tom

I am having the exact same problem. I recently moved and had to bring my laptop from work (Windows 7 Pro SP1) home to work remotely. I have two laptops at home (Both Windows 10) and each is on their own monitor (Primary Laptop uses HDMI, Secondary uses RGB). I use input director from my primary laptop to control the mouse/kb of my 2nd laptop.

Before I moved and had my laptop at work, I used TV from each of my laptops to connect to each of the monitors at work. This worked great for the last 2 years or so.

Now though, I have my work laptop at home. I use the display port of my work laptop to connect to my primary monitor, and the HDMI port to hook it to my secondary monitor.

I then switch the monitors back to use my personal laptops, and then use TV on each laptop to connect to the work laptop and its two displays. Display and functionality wise, this setup works fine...I can see and control everything just like I want it, but when I try to launch W.E., Control Panel, etc etc, I get the server execution failure option. I have isolated this to only be an issue when TV is connected. As soon as I disconnect and go back to the laptop manually, everything works fine.

If I disconnect both monitors from the work laptop, and use TV from my personal laptop, the problem still persists.

I think that the switch to bringing the laptop home with me is coincidental. The day I went to work to get my laptop, I wasn't able to open W.E. via TV, but it worked fine once I got to the office.

For now I think I am just going to have to install input director on my work laptop, and manually switch the inputs on my monitors, but I would really like the convenience of TV so I can just click where I want to go. Hopefully someone can help with this!!!

Progress report:

I got a response to a support ticket filed a couple of weeks ago.  Jeremy said:

"Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm not sure exactly what causes this particular error message, however it is described in one of Microsoft's Knowledge Base articles, along with a hotfix to fix it:"

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2444677

I had seen that article earlier when trying to solve this problem, but was not sure it applied.  I have not tried it yet because if it doesn't work, trying to get back to square one from 3000 miles away working with a Windows/computing illiterate person (very smart but not acquainted with the concepts or language of PCs) is daunting.  But there may be a window of opportunity next week.  I'll return to post results when/if I get to try the hotfix.
