LOCK screen on disconnect - Is this a security option?
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:38:53 AM »
For security, how can I set TeamViewer to automatically "lock" the remote system anytime TeamViewer disconnects?

While connected, I use the options to disable remote input and display a black screen, but when I lose the connection or forget to lock the screen before disconnecting, the system is sitting unlocked for anyone to access it.  This is a pretty big security concern in our environment.

If this feature does not exist I hope there are plans to implement it since I absolutely love TeamViewer otherwise!

Not sure if this would work, but it may,
on the remote machine:
Set the teamviewer options/security/windows logon<- allow all
Then when you are done with your session, on the remote machne,
start/log off
it shoulld then bring the windows account log on screen to the forefront, as long as no one one the remote side has a/the windows logon pasword, the machine shouldn't be accessible.

I know how to manuallly lock the remote machine before I disconnect.

What if my connection drops unexpectedly?  What if my system crashes?  What if I forget to lock the remote machine when I disconnect?  Then the remote machine is not locked and anyone who happens to walk by can sit down and use it as if they were me, with my administrator credentials.  Do you understand the security problem yet?

I need the option to have TeamViewer AUTOMATICALLY lock the desktop anytime an incoming connection is ended for ANY reason.

The TeamViewer Changelog for version 5.x (http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/changelog.aspx and click on Windows / TeamViewer 5.x) says "The Windows desktop gets locked correctly after a TeamViewer session" (under Further Improvements for Version 5.1.9072 beta).

In my experience (using TeamViewer 7.0.12541), this does not happen - my computer remains unlocked after a remote control session disconnects.

This is a huge security hole!

I agree and its a huge problem if you manage anything that requires security.  The fact that a month has gone by and this post has not been answered is a bit troubling.

It's not a problem as long as you use the toolbar..... --> Actions --> Lock Computer before disconnecting.

Read what the issue is before answering as you obviously don't understand what the problem is.

This is a Major Security Issue as anyone at the host machine can simply disconnect the internet and the PC is then left unprotected exposed to any access.  Not having this feature is a Major selling point that should be addressed and fixed ASAP.  It has been over a YEAR since this was first posted. I would assume from that, that teamviewer posing a business grade tool is not.   UltraVNC, Windows Remote Desktop, and may other tools has had this from the get go.

Please fix this SECURITY HOLE ASAP.  It is not acceptable to loose control of remote site because a disconnect.

Dear Robert

Thank you very much for sending us these Feature Requests.

I will forward your suggestion to our product management. Such ideas are always welcome, although I can not promise when or if this Feature will be implemented, as the decision is based on public demand. Nevertheless, your feedback is very important to us as we want to continue to develop TeamViewer based on our user's needs and demands. We will be happy to inform you about realization of this feature.

If you have any further questions on our product, please feel free to contact us.

Best regards

"public demand"  LOL. Guess security issues are not important.  Gesh

Hello,
sorry for the late reply but this is NOT an official TeamViewer forum, so we do not see all the posts in time.
I also forwarded the mentioned feature to our product management as my colleague has already done. I also added the described security misgiving from some of the users.
However I can not promise if and when this feature will be added.
Best regards
Inga, TeamViewer

Still no solution, thus no possibility of rolling this product out to our environment.  Stuck with RDP here.

Sure wish TeamViewer would explain why this security issue is not a high priority for a product sold as an Enterprise solution.  Security should be their first priority.

TeamViewer 8 beta was released yesterday: http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/currentversion.aspx

"The remote computer is automatically locked instantly if the connection is closed or interrupted. This ensures that no one gains unintended access to the Mac or Windows computer you were just connected to."

Yay!

Thank you!

That is great news but what about companies that have already purchase the other versions, 6 or 7, and do not want up pay to upgrade to the latest version 8?

Is there going to be a patch for those versions to lock the computer if a connection closes?

While there is two version of "Locking" advertised I did not find LOGOUT function that was said to exist.  But here is how to get to LOCK ON LOG OUT..

When you are in a Session

ACTIONS ---> LOCK COMPUTER --> "Lock on session End"

Thank you for adding it, sad it took this long as it is a major security issue.  You would think security 101 level.  What happens if I get disconnected.. O the remote machine says 100% unlocked to any passer by?.. Hmmm.. Thank you. Great application this is the icing on the cake!
