Protecting the Partner list

Is there any way to protect the partner list with a password on a machine where Teamviewer is running and waiting for a remote connection?  If I leave Teamviewer running on several remote machines, I don't want someone to be able to go up to that machine and access the partner list and be able to connect to the other machines I have in my personal "network" of machines.

Hello jspector,

why would you like the remote machines to be logged in your partner list, while you are not in front of them? It's probably the best not to set the check mark "remember password" in the partner list - so you'll have to enter the password everytime you would like to use the partner list.

Thanks for your reply.  I'm probably using the wrong terminology, so please excuse me if I'm asking the question incorrectly.

Let's say I regularly use three PCs - one in my home, one in my vacation home (which is located in another state), and one in my office.  When I am sitting at any one of these three PCs, I'd like to be able to get remote access to the other two, without anyone else intervening or needing to be present to do anything.  I can do this right now with LogMeIn.

I thought the way to accomplish this with Teamviewer was to add all of the computers to the partner list and set them to allow remote access from another machine.  Then, no matter which of the three machines I am at, I can open Teamviewer, see the other two as online on the partners list, and establish a remote connection.

My concern is that if someone is present at one of the computers when I am not present (say, for example, that in the evening I am at home, but a co-worker is in the office) that the co-worker could go up to my office computer, open Teamviewer, see my home and vacation home PC on the partner list, and gain control over the machine which I will not be at (since I can only be in one place at one time).

So this is the reason I'd like the remote machines to be logged into the partners list while I am not in front of them - to allow me to access them remotely.  Your suggestion that I uncheck the "remember password" option sounds like a good sugggestion, but I cannot find the option - can you tell me where it is?

Hello jspector,

Thank you for your reply. To establish a connection to your remote machines, there is no need for the remote machines to be logged in the partner list.

  • Download and install the TeamViewer full version on all three machines.
  • Extras -> Options -> Start TeamViewer with Windows (starts TeamViewer automatically with Windows, choose TeamViewer Host for Mac).
  • Set up a predefined password for TeamViewer on all three machines.
  • Sign in the partner list on one machine, choose "Add Partner" icon.
  • Add all three machines to your partner list, using the TeamViewer ID (partner type: TeamViewer ID (Computer)). Enter the predefined password and confirm "OK".

Sign in the partner list only on the workstation you're in front of. You could see the remote machines being online, even if they are not logged in your partner list account. If a co-worker in your office uses your workstation, he would not see the online status of your other machines and has no option to establish a connection to them, because he's not signed in.

Please keep in mind that Teamviewer is free for private use. Access to your company computer for work-related activities is not allowed within the terms & conditions of the free license.
