Chat box popping up on multiple computers?
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:17:56 PM »
Is there a way to have the chat box only pop up on the computer you pick to send messages to, not all of them in the 'computers and contacts' list?

The chat box appears on the computer you send to, but if your Teamviewer ID account is logged into multiple computers, the chat box will also appear on those computers.  Conversly, if the TV ID account that is logged into the computer you are messaging is also logged into multiple computers, then the chat box will also pop up on each of those.

For example, I have 3 computers that I installed TV on and use my TVID to log into for my partner list.   If I message my friend Sally at her computer that chat window will show up on all 3 of my computers plus Sally's computer.

So, if you have a habbit of using the same teamviewer ID to log into the partner list on multiple computers, each computer that is logged in with that ID will get the message you send.

So, basically, just don't log into my 'computers and contacts' so it can only 'see' one computer at a time?

i.e. I login as Christie and pull up my computer list

Local:
  comp1
  Comp2
  Comp3
MyPartners:
  Comp4

then it'd send to all of them that are online (which it has been) -- but as long as I don't login, and just type the ID in the PartnerID box, say for comp4, it'll send messages only to Comp4, regardless of whether any of the others are online too?

Up until now, I've just been logging in to computers and contacts, and right clicking on the comp name in the list if I need to chat; it's useful sometimes to be able to without actually logging in with remote control to chat.

As far as I know (have not tested to verify), if you do not log in to Computers and contacts on the "other" machines, then it will not pop up on those machines.   But you will need to make sure you don't have those machines set to auto log on.

So, in your example, if you used the account "Christie" to install and log into the full version of TV on all 4 computers, and all 4 are online, if you connect from Comp1 and try to message Comp2, if TV is automatecally signed in with "Christie" on Comp3 and Comp4 would get the message as well.

In my environment we use "Host" mode installs for most the clients, and only those of us who are goign to be initiating a remote session have the full version.   So the Host users only can be controlled, they can't controll another computer.  Therefore, there is no account to sign in and you don't have the Computers and COntacts list.

In your case, if you always work from Comp1, then Comp1 could have the full version and Comp2-4 would have host only.

Also, if you log onto the other machines, they can see your entire partner list and control them at will.

I log into one computer at a time, and I can see my list of contacts, but my contacts cannot see each other.
I have set teamviewer to start on all machines that I need to access, but without logging in to a TV account.
