Ninite update of TeamViewer disables automatic startup
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:41:20 PM »
I use Ninite on many of my friends' and family's computers to keep various software applications up to date, including TeamViewer.  Each time TeamViewer is updated by Ninite, the option to "Start TeamViewer with Windows" always gets unset.  I have to wait until the person is available to manually start TeamViewer, and then I can log on and re-enable the automatic startup option.

This isn't a major problem, but rather a minor incovenience.  I'm not sure if this is a TeamViewer installation issue or a Ninite issue.

Has anyone had a similar problem?  All my other customized TeamViewer settings remain intact after an update.  It's only the "Start TeamViewer with Windows" option that gets changed.

Is it possible for Ninite to use a different setting to allow the Startup setting to remain unchanged?

Thanks!

Bump.  Anyone have any feedback on this?

I have had two problems with TeamViewer.

  • As described above, some of my TeamViewer installations are just randomly not restarting TeamViewer when the computer reboots.  Even though the setting remains set to Start automatically with Windows.
  • When I run Ninite to update software, including TeamViewer, it never can because TeamViewer is running.  Apparently the TV installer doesn't shut down TV automatically before installing?

Thoughts?

In advanced options there are some things that may help 'check for updates' and 'Install new versions automatically'

I'm still having frequent issues with TeamViewer not updating, or updating and becoming disabled and requiring manual intervention to get restarted.

Let me try a different approach.  Is it possible to set TeamViewer up to completely maintain itself?  Unattended.  Check for the latest version.  Install updates automatically.  Stop and start the service cleanly?  Without requiring a reboot?

As I mentioned above, on all of the machines I support (friends and family) I have Ninite set up to check for TeamViewer updates a couple times per week.  On top of that, TeamViewer itself is set up to Check for new version: Weekly and Install new versions automatically: Updates within this major version.

All of my installations are set up for unattended access.  Very often one of the machines just quits accepting TeamViewer connections.  As far as I can tell, somehow the TeamViewer service become Disabled and I typically have to have the user reboot the machine and then restart TeamViewer manually.  Looking in Services, the TeamViewer service is no longer present.  Then I have to go into TeamViewer -> Extras -> Options -> General and uncheck and recheck Start TeamViewer with Windows.  The service reappears as Automatic and I'm good, usually until the next update.

I've asked the Ninite folks for the command that they use to run the TeamViewer install in unattended mode.  Maybe that is the source of the problem.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Teamviewer seems to think that ver 9 is an upgrade from latest ver 8

I expect that ninite think the same about TV8 as well.

Unless you change to 'latest update' in TV I would expect this issue to continue for you.

The machines I'm talking about having the problem have been on TV9 for some time now.  These are minor upgrades within TV9, so I'm not sure that is the case.

Should it matter anyway?  Shouldn't TV cleanly uninstall and reinstall itself, including the service, when it performs an upgrade?
