How Free is the Free License?
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:39:03 AM »
I have logmein as a remote connect service now. I have more than 30 computers I connect to on it. I have been looking into switching to teamviewer and only have one concern.

If I install the host that will remote control other computers on one computer and then install that remote software on 40+ other computers so I can remote connect to them from this one, will it work? When I read the commercial license pricing list it said it only allows up to 15 remote connects so how many does the free license allow? Maybe I didn't understand right...

i think as long as you aren't getting paid for your use of teamviewer(choose the "non-commercial/Personal choice when installing) I don't think they limit the number of users you can have.

I think you have some terminology confusion.

'Host' in Teamviewer is what you install on a machine that you want to control without anyone being in attendance at the remote end. I use this for headless servers (I have a paid licence).

'Host' is the same download as 'install', except that you run from within Teamviewer, Connections >> Setup unattended access. This creates a service, and means that you can connect before a local user has logged on.
Teamviewer doesn't do 'remote start' or 'remote wake on LAN' that can be achieved with LogMeIN. Personally I find teamviewer much faster than LogMeIn. I often find LogMeIn to be too slow to be functional.

You 'install' a version on the computer that you connect from (as opposed to 'run').
I normally 'install' on all computers I manage, and then if I need to I log in to my account from whichever computer I am at. This way I can be at one client's premises and connect (with their permission) to another client's computers in an emergency.

I am unsure where the '15 remote connects' comes from...

You can connect to an unlimited number of computers to control them ('hosts' on the page linked to above)
15 is the number of participants in a 'meeting'
