TeamViewer 9 and Symantec firewall - need info about TV
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:58:43 AM »
OK, I'm using the free TV - vers 9 completely up to date.  Symantec Endpoint Prot 12.1 and it's firewall is blocking TV.  In order for me to unblock, I need to discover what protocols/processes TV uses in it's process to connect to the outside world.  Symantec's overall advice is to avoid unblocking just the app or .exe - because just unblocking the app may not include other "behind the scenes" activity that apps (like TV) are using.

Are there remote ports I should open in the firewall?  Are there local ports I should open in the firewall?    Are there IP protocols in use "behind the scenes"?  Are there other "special considerations" I should be accounting for in setting up TV?

Note:  I have perfect connectivity through the firewall with the browser and other net based apps.  If I disable the firewall, TV works right off.  SEP is used in an "unmanaged" environment.

Need some guidance, please.

Thanks.

My expectation is that ports are dynamic, and will change.

I'd just allow TV through the firewall and see if that works

Thank you Matt.

Unfortunately, I have constructed a firewall rule to do just that - for TeamViewer.exe and for TeamViewer-services.exe.  Symantec's advisories state that unblocking just the .exe on any particular app may not be enough.  They encourage the user to ask the app author about other processes that may be enlisted by the app but not clearly visible to the user.  Among those suggestions are to poke a hole for all remote/local ports the app might be using.  And, this is what I don't know about TV.

Is there anything going on in the background (usage of odd-ball ports or usage of odd or irregular UDPs for instance) that the user can't see right off?

I just found this page  >> http://www.teamviewer.com/en/help/334-Which-ports-are-used-by-TeamViewer.aspx

Don't know if it helps much though
