Painfully slow to connect...

I have been traveling and needing to remote into my PC. Whilst in south east Asia it's been weird... TV takes 3-4 full minutes to connect (connecting, spinning and failing several times in the process). On the Android app this is infuriating because when the screen sleeps the connection attempt is abandoned. I thought it was because of my locale. But once in, the remote access seemed to operate fine.

Now I have returned to Australia, I'm dismayed that it's still happening (Android, OSX and Windows). It makes using TV almost impossible, especially if you need to log in quickly to achieve something in a hurry.

This has been happening for a few months and I'm at my wits end now.

Is there something wrong with the app? I haven't changed anything. To be clear there's no issue once I'm connected, it's just flaky and extremely slow to connect.

Where were you in South East Asia?
Were you trying to connect without going through a secure VPN first?

No VPN, I thought TeamViewer was secure anyway. I was in Vietnam and Cambodia. I'm not sure it's relevant though because I'm having the same issue in Australia, where both the client and remote server are in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.

Strange though that it started happening when in Asia. I could connect quickly from London to Sydney.

Not if you picked up a virus, keylogger or trojan etc

In some counties doing this to international travellers is officially sanctioned, even encouraged (and that may or may not include our great sunburned country).

I think that teamviewer once connected is secure, but if your phone / laptop is compromised before you make a teamviewer connection, or if you initialise a teamviewer connection from an unprotected wifi, it is entirely possibly that the connection is compromised. I understand, and am aware of possible nasties. But I'm pretty sure it's not that. The workstation I'm using in Australia to connect, is a separate desktop at a friends. It's having the same issues that my phone and laptop were having abroad.

To further clarify, it's not just the one server, as I have two machines that this happens to when I try to log in to them.

No ideas? I reinstalled the app completely (on all machines/devices) and still have the same issue.
