XP Data Execution Protection error and Commercial Use Suspect
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:03:58 PM »
I'm getting the message Commercial Use Suspect followed by a Windows Data Execution Prevention error message when I try to connect to any remote system.  Teamviewer then crashes, and requires the assistance of the Task Manager to clear the screen.  It then offers to send the debug info to Microsoft.  Changing the Data Execution Prevention settings does nothing.

This is happening only on one of my three machines, so I presume there's nothing wrong with my account.  The machine is running XP SP3 with the latest updates.  No malware found by Microsoft Security Essentials or Malwarebytes.  I've tried uninstalling Teamviewer 8, removing the mostly empty directories, and using regedit to remove any traces of Teamviewer from the registry before a reinstall.  Nothing seems to help and the error message and crashes persists.

One possible problem is that I currently have about 45 saved Teamviewer ID's, which is a few less than the 50 maximum for the free version.  I didn't realize that there was a limit and found that Teamviewer refused to add ID number 51, so I removed a few old ID's.  That was 2 weeks ago.  It's possible that this may have triggered some kind of algorithm for detecting commercial use.

Other than rolling back the registry, which I'm hesitating to try because there were too many new programs installed in the last week, any clues or suggestions?

maybe try and older version of TV on the XP machine.
ive been running 49 different IDs and have never run into that error.
(just deleted about 10 i havent "helped" in a while.
How often to you access each of the ID you have saved?

I'll try an older version, but that's probably a waste of time.  My other XP machine works with the lastest version, using the same account, to the same remote ID's.  There's something wrong with either the install or the machine.  Nothing else on this machine is failing, so my guess it is the install.  My next step will be to uninstall Teamviewer using Revo Uninstaller, which does a good job of removing registry entries and well hidden directories that the official installers usually seem to miss or ignore.

As for the number of repeated connections, I use Teamviewer to mostly to cleanup minor problems at various friends machines.  Also to administer several remote weather stations and ham radio related computers.  I would guess about four ID's have been accessed about 50 times.  The rest, maybe 15 times each.  I don't know how Teamviewer detects commercial use, but it seems silly to use the number of times one connects to an ID, which is simply an indication of how long Teamviewer has been installed and in use.

Is there a .REG file that will purge Teamviewer 8 from the registry completely, including all the entries the regular uninstall leaves behind?

Thanks.

Perhaps then then older version is a waste, i think using revo uninstaller may be a better option to get rid of any remnants.
Dont know of a reg file that will do what you need, perhaps someone else here knows.
I use TV for basically the same thing you do, but the difference is i have accessed specific remote systems many times over 50, i don't think that is how they detect commercial use.
