different software download for host pc?
« on: December 07, 2013, 12:56:05 PM »
Hi all,

I want to continue helping my sister who has little, knowledge of computers.  We used logmein for about 2 weeks and then it just quit working right.  I got tired of waiting for the support ticket to be answered, so I read about teamviewer and switched to it.

I have the software downloaded, but I think there is other tv software that belongs on the host computer (my sisters).  I would like to find out, before I have her download the same software to her pc.  I want whatever will be easiest for her as I cannot go the 100 miles to her place to set it up for her.

If someone can shed some light on this for me, I would so appreciate it.

Thank you much for any help:)

there is not a different software, she just needs to have it installed on her computer as well.
Here is a little set up Primer in the forum that seems to have worked for a few in installing TV on a remote system:

Do you think it is easier for my sister (the host pc) to leave our TV on?  We were doing fine until we both excited the program, then for some reason, she couldn't figure out how to sign back in.  I just sent her a clip of what TV looks like on mine when I sign in so hopefully she can figure it out, only with her user code and pass code.

Leaving it on I thought might somehow make it easy for someone to hack into her puter, or mine?

Thank you again, and I promise not to make a pest of myself here:)

no leaving it on wont make it easier for someone to hack in to either computer.

They can tell you the ID and password, from there you could access their system , navigate to the teamviewer page and download the full version.
Install the full version and then configure to to start with windows by navigating to:
extras/options and putting a check mark in "start with windows".
That way when ever the computer is started, teamviewer is running, you can click the icon on the desktop and type in the information to connect or add her computer to "computers and contacts" at the lower right of the teamviewer window( after you double click the icon)

You should also configure a custom password
extras/options/security
enter a password in the "personal password( for unattended access)" section
also in the section  "rules for connections to this computer" where it reads "windows logon", choose "allowed for all users" from the drop down".

This was really helpful, thank you for posting it.  I did read up on teamviewer (the description on the download page) but then I didn't read any further.  I really appreciate you taking the time.  I will do as you say on the custom password etc.  Thank you again:)
