Remote Computer goes offline often, requires re-adding
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:59:01 PM »
I have several remote systems setup for unattended access. My work system will show as online for days or weeks, and then it goes offline. But when I check on it in person, the client is fine. Rebooting doesn't get it back online, etc. I have to open the computer and Contacts on the sytem and under "Offline" I delete the system and then I click on Add This Computer. Or what ever it is called. It then gets re-added and it back online again. And it will stay that way for days or sometimes weeks at a time. And then it goes offline again. The system does not go to sleep and if fully on when I come back to the office. Driving me nuts and this is the only system that does this.

It's a Windows 8.1 system, but so are many of my systems. And trying to search for teamviewer offline gets me different offline issues.

Perhaps there is a firewall issue at your work computer that limits outgoing connections

Not a firewall issue. It works just fine when I add the computer. But eventually goes offline and won't work again until after I re-add it. Each time the firewall is not the issue.

There are a number of programs available on the net that progressively make individual internet connections slow down.

These are used by admins in an effort to stop file sharing in workplaces.

http://www.netlimiter.com/
http://bandwidthcontroller.com/index.html

For two examples.

I suspect that the admin at your work has enabled something like this (some firewall devices do this from a LAN perspective) in an effort to limit certain bandwidth users. TeamViewer sends pulses to the Teamviewer servers to signify online status. This heartbeat may well trigger the limiting software at your work network.

You should ask the admins of your work network to allow you access via teamviewer, if you are allowed to do that.

I can't go into details. But I am the Network Admin at the company. We have a 100 Mbit internet connection. I have access to the firewall and everything else. I also have other systems within the network. No GPO policies are affecting this either. And of all things, it's my system at work with the issue.

Trying to figure out why just one system will eventually say "offline" and require that I delete and re-add the computer. I don't have to reinstall or anything. And the client is fully up to date.

Well it just happened again. My work system (others are fine) is now listed as offline. I am on the system right now and it never sleeps. So it's definitely on the internet. Before I go into the TeamViewer client interface and choose "delete" from the 'gear' icon drop down; does anyone have any ideas like a log that I can look at? I know if I delete it and re-add it; it will be online again. Likely for a few more weeks again.

Well, another Teamviewer 9 update. Now on 9.0.32494 so we will see if this version has the same issue on this 1 PC. Odd that I only have this issue on 1 system.

I am having the exact same problem.  I updated to from Windows 7 to 8.1 3 weeks ago and everything was working fine until this week.  Due to this problem I had to re-added my home computer this morning and it just went offline 30 minutes ago.  If I check teamviewer on the home computer it can see other computers and everything looks OK.

What version exactly, do you have right now is it going offline? I haven't had the issue yet since version 9.0.32494 , but it's only been 9 days since I updated. So still plenty of time for it to happen again for me. Happens about 1 or 2 times a month for my one system, out of about 10.

I will have to check when I get home from work.  Yesterday I had it check for new versions and it said it was up to date.  My first suspicion was Windows 8 since that was a recent update and the issue never occurred with 7.

I have almost all Windows 8.1 systems, and only 1 of them has this issue from the very start for me.

I guess I spoke too soon. I rebooted my PC today and it went offline with the latest version and I had to re-add the system. Oh well. I just don't understand why only 1 of my many systems is doing this.

Mine has a static IP so it is not that.  I'm going to check to make sure Windows Firewall is off.  Not really sure what else to try.

Good luck. I already know my issue is not due to the computer losing network or internet connectivity. As I am literally online doing other tasks when it happens. And that once it does go "offline", the only way to get it back online is to remove it from the account and re-add it. So something else is going on.

On the latest version 9.0.32494.  I just noticed I'm having a similar problem with my voicechat server so I think this is a Windows 8 issue.  Problem is this is a fresh install of 8.1 with fresh installs of Teamviewer and the voice chat server (Ventrilo).  I changed the network profile to "private" but the issue still occurred overnight.
