Restart TeamViewer if user closes it?
« on: May 04, 2015, 12:46:02 PM »
Hi, I provide technical support for a small community radio station. We try to keep Team Viewer always running on the station's Mac in case I need to connect remotely to fix a problem. Team Viewer is set up to load whenever the computer is rebooted, but dj's -- for some inexplicable reason -- sometimes close Team Viewer. So I have to drive to the station to re-launch it.

Is there some way to set up OS X to keep an eye on Team Viewer and if it is closed, re-launch it?

We have volunteer IT guys who are good with Windows and with Linux, but no one who is an OS X wizard . . . so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might try this. It's basically designed to keep an application open, no matter what. If someone closes that application, it'll reopen.

can you just teach the guys who "accidentally" close it to relaunch it? OR at least call them and walk them through it?

Hi Admin,

Tell them not to do it? Teach them what to do if they do do it?

Hah.

We've tried, we've tried. If this was a commercial station there would be the threat of suspension, loss of job, etc., to hold over their heads. But it's a volunteer-run station. The hosts are volunteers. Many of them are quite, um, "artistic" in that they don't have any clue about tech. They just do things. No one will admit to being the ones that close it. Lessons, meetings, talks, signs, Post-It notes, etc., accomplish nothing. You go to connect to the computer to Do Things remotely and it's offline.

Danl, I'll give that script a try, thanks. Will report back. Probably give it shot on Wednesday after my morning show.
