I am using TeamViewer 10 to help my mother with her new notebook. We both run Windows 8.1 but live in separate cities.

I sometimes need to reach her and strongly prefer to talk by Skype since it avoids long distance charges. Is it possible for me to turn on her computer and sign in even if it is turned off? I'm guessing it isn't but would be pleased to find that I'm wrong.

Much of the time, when I want to Skype her, the computer is either unattended - she is doing housework of some kind - or it is turned off entirely, making it very hard to Skype her. If I could turn it on and launch Skype, I know she's hear the ringing from Skype eventually....

If her notebook supports Wake On LAN (WOL) then this should be possible.

Not all notebooks support WOL though

How can I determine if it has WOL?

Check the manufacturer's website

Okay, I'll check the manufacturer's website. (I assume I'll need the notebook's model number for that so I'll ask the next time I talk to my mother.)

Thanks!

I finally got the model number of my mother's notebook and I finally found some instructions on how to tell if a given machine has WOL on the ASUS website so thanks for the advice on how to find that information :-)
