Right alt key sticks
« on: June 24, 2015, 12:40:06 PM »
I just started using TeamViewer and I have a problem when I'm in a remote session.  The right alt key "sticks", and doesn't work with other key combinations (such as alt-D to go to the address bar, or alt-F to open the file menu).  I can still use the left alt key, but that is very cumbersome.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, and is there a workaround for it?

Thanks.

I have the SAME problem.   I was getting very frustrated - for about an hour till I figured out it was TeamViewer.  I also just started using TeamViewer (Oct 2016), so I am using version 11.

I work for a big software vendor, and have experience with SQA.   Let me share what I have found:

While remote controlling a windows 7 box with a copy of Notepad running...

Just pressing the Alt key and releasing it:
    ---------------------------------------------------
    1) Upon initial "press" of left (or right) alt key, the little underlines show up
    2) Upon "release" of left (or right) alt key, the "File" menu word is entirely hightlighted (like a button)
    3) Upon 2nd "press" of left (or right) alt key, the highlights all disappear
    4) Upon 2nd "release" of the left (or right) alt key nothing changes

These behaviors are consistent between the left and Right alt key   (so far...)

    Now trying key combinations:
    ------------------------------------
    5) While holding the left alt key down (upon initial press, so I see the underlines at this point)...
if I press the 'f' key, the File menu drops down (as it should)
releasing the alt key does nothing

    6) While holding down the RIGHT alt key (also see the underlines at this point)...
if I press the 'f' key, NOTHING HAPPENS.
I can repeatedly press any other LETTER and nothing happens
then, releasing the alt key repeats what was seen above in (2)

    7) However, if I repeat experiment (6) but using the right alt key and the "SPACE BAR"...
then the system menu DOES pop up!!!
ONLY the space bar hotkey combination works with the Right alt key.

Also, using the right alt key for "alt+tab"ing  works as expected.
I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad (w540).

When I first looked on the web for some answers to these questions, I found this other thread "TeamViewer fcuks up my keyboard", here:  http://teamviewerforums.com/index.php?topic=1729.0

In that post I saw a "Hero" forum member repeatedly look to suggest something as simple as "is your computer turned on?" ('sticky keys' really?).  Looking further down that post, I discovered that the eventual support ticket was also closed without solution.   Hmmm.

I am now starting to question my interest to go with TeamViewer.  If I had **any** inclination to spend close to $1000 for a product - I expect the support to be better than this.

For now, I am eager to hear some kind of reassurance from TeamVeiwer engineer or forum monitor.
Perhaps an admission that the earlier ticket was prematurely closed - this appears to be a real problem.

Or perhaps an explanation that while that earlier ticket was closed, something architecturally changed between then (2013) and now (2016) that fixed "SOME" of the problem.

Or perhaps a list of other related tickets that are still open and actively investigated?

Or perhaps, if **I** submit a ticket it will not get closed prematurely.

I would appreciate any feedback from a TeamViewer engineer.

Thanks,
nebbish

Also - I will share my full name and contact info upon request by a TeamViewer employee.

I would be willing to experiment and work together to find the solution.

Thanks again,
